Dr. Arthur Butler
Senior Lecturer
Background
Arthur holds a DPhil in Laser Physics and a Masters degree in Physics, both from Oxford University. He published several research papers in the fields of guiding high-intensity laser pulses, and of short-wavelength lasers. He is a tutor and lecturer on the REBE MSc course, and lectures and runs practical sessions on wind power on the AEES MSc.
He offers technical advice about experiment design, equipment and datalogging. He also teaches on a variety of other subjects on short courses at CAT. Additionally he works in the Engineering department at CAT, with a specialism in system control and monitoring.
He worked at Dulas Engineering installing weather monitoring equipment. He taught Optics and Atomic Physics and Electromagnetism to undergraduates during his DPhil. As part of his first degree he attended an Energy Studies module. He is a long-term supporter of CAT, and used information from CAT fact sheets to design and make a model wind turbine as a GCSE CDT project.
