Science symposium 2012

Instructions to submit papers for 2012 Symposium's will follow. For reference, here are the guidelines set out for author's of our previous symposium.

Instructions for authors

Paper

Your paper should follow the format of the template which can be downloaded here . The template gives the layout and font sizes etc to use, or you can paste or write your text directly into the template. Save the paper with a filename

  • firstname_surname_SS2012
  • and submit to; This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

All accepted papers will be loaded as pdf’s to the CAT website where they will be publicly accessible.

For presentations on the day of the symposium the following formats are available.

 

Presentation

A 15 minute presentation with 5 minutes for questions, using PowerPoint. If using other software (e.g. open office) you are advised to save a copy in PowerPoint file format as the presentation computers in the WISE building support PowerPoint but possibly not other formats.

 

Poster

A1 size board, portrait format, with up to 3 boards maximum. If attending you should bring a printed copy ready to be mounted. If unable to attend (e.g. DL alumni) you should submit the poster as a pdf file (see below).

  • A1 poster using PowerPoint (PP)
  • In PP, File/page setup, select custom, orientation portrait, and enter height 84.1cm, width 59.4cm and save
  • Use the zoom control to add text and graphics to the A1 page
  • Save file as a pdf

 

Saving in pdf format

Use a pdf writer - a free one is at www.cutepdf.com

Follow the download instructions…2 software packages are installed

In PP, File/print/properties/layout/advanced/paper size….and select A1 or ISO A1 and then 'print' selecting the pdf writer as the printer

A pdf file will be generated in the location specified
